Anaesthetists

Anaesthetists are qualified and experienced in providing local and general anaesthesia and are fully credentialed prior to working at the Eye Surgery Foundation. The surgeon for your operation will be able to tell you which anaesthetist he will be using.

Adult eye surgery is usually done under local anaesthesia. A specialist anaesthetist numbs the eye locally and you may also have a mild "twilight anaesthetic" if you are very nervous or tense. You can talk and answer questions throughout the procedure.
